Kelly Pohl, at the age of only 33, has danced and performed professionally in Australia and the Unites States. Years ago, Kelly performed as a key dancer in the 2000 Olympic Games alongside well known industry names David Atkins, Dean Perry and Adam Garcia (Bootmen). Kelly around this same time held a contract with Lennon Bros Circus and sang at numerous national soccer and football matches. A multiple winner at the Wollongong Eisteddfod in all styles such as jazz, tap and song and dance, Kelly has stepped up to choreograph for not only singing and dancing schools, but for Bodyheat, the male dance group, and the opening of the Entertainment Centre in Wollongong. Constantly involved with dance throughout her education, Kelly received an Opera House call back for her dance HSC and took many lead rolls in School Spectaculars. During this time an achievement of Honours Plus was attained from Grade 2 to Gold Star (under the FATD syllabus.)
Most recently Kelly was hand picked to travel to the US to participate in classes at the famous 'Millennium' and 'Edge' dance studios with noted choreographers Tony Czar, Kevin Maher, Brian Friedman, Tabitha and Napoleon (So You Think You Can Dance) and Chris Jones from the movies You Got Served 1 and 2. During this time, Kelly was honoured to be selected to perform in 'Carnival' (which was the first prize award for the Australian SYTYCD winner) in LA for Britney Spears's choreographer Andre Fuentes. A short time after, Kelly was chosen to tour with Andre Fuentes as his personal assistant and travelled to New Zealand and across many states of Australia. Upon returning she organised Wollongong’s biggest ever workshop with international choreographers and is now the proud owner of Hype Performance Studios. Kelly is honoured and proud of her accomplishments thus far and has a deep passion for the dance industry. She is delighted to embark on this new adventure at Hype Performance Studios!
Kayla has been dancing since the age of 3 in many styles of dance such as jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical and ballroom. Kayla studied dance for her HSC and received a band 6 as a result. Kayla attended a fulltime course at Brent Street in 2011 and graduated with a Certificate IV in Performing Arts.
Kayla has had the opportunity of travelling to the USA with Brent Street where she took classes with elite choreographers in Las Vegas and New York. Kayla and four other dancers from HYPE made it to the semi finals of Australia’s Got Talent in 2009.
Kayla also had the opportunity to perform alongside singer Alexis Jordan at the 2011 Sydney Mardi Gras VIP Concert and has also appeared in the movie Goddess (2013), the band ‘Short Stack’s’ film clip ‘Bang Bang Sexy’, the TV series Panjo Allstars from Nickelodeon and also had an appearance in Australia’s Next Top Model (2011). Kayla is looking forward to teaching at Hype Performance Studios this year.
Nineteen-year-old Kayla McCoskery is a University of Wollongong student in the process of completing a Bachelor of Communications and Media. She began gymnastics at the young age of 6 at Kiama Leisure Centre, which led to her participation in Oak Flats Albion Park Gymnastics & Acrobatics Club. After achieving 2nd place at State Championships at the age of 8, Kayla was encouraged to continue her career in Gymnastics.
At age 12, Kayla decided to begin Acrobatics, and she has attended both State and National Championships from 2009 onwards, placing in the top 3 in all competitions. Acrobatics, consisting of Gymnastics, Dance, and Tumbling, is a sport that requires great levels of precision and accuracy, which is why Kayla loves it, because it's not a sport just anyone can master.
Being trained in this department enables children to learn skills to facilitate their dancing as well as their flexibility and capability. Until 2014, Kayla participated as a flyer in Acrobatics, which involed being thrown by two bases whilst doing dynamic and balance routines. Now Kayla enjoys basing, which involves her throwing and catching a young girl, while also exceeding the judge’s expectations of a high execution. Despite juggling university, multiple jobs and acrobatics 3-4 days a week, Kayla enjoys the competition with her teammates, along with teaching kids the skills and knowledge that she has learnt along the way. Kayla is beyond excited to begin her journey with the dancers and coaches at Hype Performance Studios.
